The highest Carolina mountain peaks average 60 inches of snow a year and expert snow makers keep the powder fresh even when Mother Nature does not cooperate. At a lower elevation, our local areas stay relatively snow-free for much of the season. This makes travel easy with little or no snow on the ground. A winter stay in the Sylva/Bryson City/Cherokee area puts skiers, snowboarders and snow tubers about 30 – 45 minutes minutes away from the closest slopes:
